TYLER, Texas (KETK) — Her brother and dad won a state football championship with the Longivew Lobos last year, but this weekend, Steelie King, will be competing in the Women’s Junior Olympic Gymnastics National Championships.

Steelie has been training at Texas East Gymnastics in Tyler for around four years, and when she started this season, her goal was to make it to Indianapolis.

She did suffer some setbacks, having to battle through injuries to get back on the mat.

But now, she is ready to showcase her hard work, and have the rest of East Texas cheer her on.

“It’s been very tough because we practice everyday, you have to perfect skills to get to this level and just to have the bravery to do the skills,” said Steelie.  “I just want to go out there and represent what East Texas is all about.”

Steelie will fly out to Indianapolis on Thursday, and be ready to compete at the Indiana Convention Center on Saturday.
