FRISCO, Texas (KETK) -- Big 12 Media Days kicked off Monday morning in Frisco, as Henderson alum, La'Kendrick Van Zandt, is searching for his opportunity on a stout TCU defense..
Going into his second year in Fort Worth, Van Zandt is number-two on the depth chart at strong safety.
"It's good that they had the spring to be able to learn and adjust to the life of college football and how different it is, because this is not high school, it's a completely different level. So with La'Kendrick specifically, I think he's coming a long ways, and there's areas obviously still to improve as is for all of us," said linebacker Ty Summers.
Van Zandt, who starred as a running back for Henderson, played in last year's season opener against Jackson State in the Horned Frogs secondary, but unfortunately, didn't see the field after that the rest of the year.
"Whenever guys come in and they play different positions, I know that the coaches have a great plan in mind, and I know that in La'Kendrick's case, I know that coach will get him ready to play," said defensive end Ben Banogu.
TCU is picked to finish third in the league, and opens the season at home against Southern on September first.
