Gilmer seniors look to inspire young Buckeyes

GILMER, Texas (KETK) -- As we continue to get ready for high school football, we turn our attention to Gilmer, who have some major roster holes to fill, but also return plenty of senior leaders, as well as that always present, Buckeye pride.

It's the nature of sports, especially at the high school level, each year, players move on, and others have to step up to fill those roles.

But what stays constant, is a program's culture, and there are few, who have a built in mindset, like the Gilmer Buckeyes.

One of the biggest graduation losses for the Buckeyes was quarterback, Poppy Brown, who put up massive numbers during his time at Gilmer.  Well now it's time to find out, who will take his place in 2018.

"You've got Cade Camp, who's our senior, and then Mason Hurd, who's an underclassman guy, but they're both doing a great job, of giving great effort, competing and helping each other and growing," said head coach Matt Turner,  "It's what we want, so you know, we fill blessed that both those guys are really doing a great job."

Whoever starts behind center, or at any other spot for that matter, knows what the expectations are in Gilmer.

"If we don't do it right, we do it again, so that's kind of our mantra as an athlete here in Gilmer, and so our guys are excited to compete," said Turner.

The Buckeyes will start their season on the road against the Atlanta Rabbits, on Friday, August 31st.
