Frankston hires interim A.D., and baseball coach

FRANKSTON, Texas (KETK) - Former Alto head football coach Paul Gould takes over as the interim athletics director at Frankston ISD.

The school district also hired a new head baseball coach in Sebastian Stargell, the grand-nephew of longtime Pittsburgh Pirates hall of famer Willie Stargell.  He spent the last three years with the Houston Astros youth academy.

The two hires are made after a mass coach exodus over the past six weeks.

Gould, who was 42-17 in five seasons at Alto before he was reassigned in December, will try to piece together a coaching staff over the next four weeks as fall football practice begins for the Indians on August 6th.

A week ago, Frankston was left without hardly any coaches in boys sports.  According to sources, nine coaches have left the district since the end of the school year, including seven assistant football coaches.  Sources told KETK, the only boys coaches left at the time included the head basketball coach and an assistant baseball coach.

Gould had accepted an assistant football coach position at his alma mater Jacksonville high school earlier this summer.  He will now look to revive the Frankston program that was 1-9 in 2017.

He'll serve as the sixth head coach for the Indians since 2014.  Gould replaces Kevin Chase who accepted a separation agreement with the FISD board of trustees after a KETK exclusive report revealed Chase was a defendant in a federal lawsuit brought on by one of his former players at Moody ISD in Central Texas.

The Frankston board will meet later this month where they could look to make a permanent appointment.
