Fielder Leaves Spring Training, Darvish Gets Ready

Rangers First Baseman Prince Fielder is leaving Spring Training. He’s flying back to Texas to undergo a sleep study and will miss at least three games

“Prince had gone about his job where I had not noticed a whole lot,” says Manager Jeff Banister. “When you’re an athlete, I know when I played, I never had those type of issues, so I’m sure that’s a little bit concerning. We’ll get him checked out and get him right.”

The Rangers also want starting pitcher Yu Darvish right. He’s recovering from elbow surgery. Darvish threw about 20 pitches in a bullpen session Wednesday.

“We set out with a number, not necessarily a hard number all the time,” Banister explains. “Depending on how he feels, we’ll obviously give him a range somewhere in that vicinity.”

Second baseman Rougned Odor was scratched this week with an abdominal strain. He’s being limited in workouts, not swinging a bat Wednesday.

“We’ll be conservative,” Banister says. “I don’t foresee a lot of concerns. We want to make sure whatever it is calms down and he gets his treatment and get him out there to work and be prepared and not have any setbacks.”
