FFF Game of the Week Preview: Pine Tree, Hallsville to open district in clash of turnaround teams

KETK - Our week five Friday Football Fever game of the week features two district rivals who have gotten off to hot-starts this season.

The 2-1 Pine Tree Pirates visit Hallsville Friday to take on the undefeated Bobcats.

Last season, the Pirates made the playoffs for the first time in 16 years, but head coach Kerry Lane says their goals are higher this year,

For Joe Drennon, his bobcats won one game in his first season a year ago.  But now, behind a powerful rushing attack, Hallsville is 3-0

Both coaches understand what kind of challenges they'll be up against when they meet to open district 9-5A Division 2 action.

"This is going to be a good one their offense is really, really good, their defense runs to the ball well you know we're going to have to find a way to get some stops to get the ball in our hands and hopefully put the ball in the end zone," said Drennon who led Mineola to the 2016 3A Division 1 State Championship.

"They do a good job of splitting your defense, you know they are going to run two run plays and read the Boyd kid makes them go, he's a good athlete and he makes good decisions with the ball and they've got good backs so and obviously they're good upfront that's what paves the way for 'em," said Lane who helped Gilmer win the 2014 4A Division 2 State crown.

Kickoff is 7:30 p.m. Friday at Bobcat Stadium

Garrett Sanders will have LIVE coverage in all our KETK and FOX 51 evening newscasts and on Friday Football Fever at 10:15 p.m. on KETK, and Fever Overtime at 11:00 p.m. on FOX 51.
