Fans in Rio excited to be a part of Games

Going for the Gold 2016

After a successful first day, with the U.S medaling five times, the excitement continues in Rio de Janeiro.

Despite long lines, pricey merchandise and hot weather, fans are thrilled to be in Rio!

Whether it’s book bags, beach towels or notebooks, Rio has it! The merchandise for sale at the 2016 Olympic Games has people spending a pretty penny to take home a colorful souvenir.

“I think it would be pretty cool to get a shirt. it’s like a once in a lifetime opportunity,” fan Samantha Webb said.

The stuffed mascot for sale, Vinicius, is a mixture of many Amazon animals all in one, but the merchandise is just a bonus to the experience.

Fans are pouring into the Olympic Park to watch their favorite athletes compete and support their nation. For Jason Andrews, that means an American flag in each hand and patriotic socks with capes.

Andrews and his wife, who happens to be a former gymnast, are here for gymnastics.

“Yea, it’s the make it or break day for USA gymnastics , especially the women’s team. It’s all or nothing at this point,” Andrews said.
