Give Brady Ellison a fishing pole or set of golf clubs and he’ll put up a good showing. Give him a recurve bow and he’ll win a medal in the Olympic Games.

Showing off his ink, two-time Olympian Brady Ellison said he plans to add another tattoo to his arm now that he’s headed to Rio. He already touts rings from Beijing and London.

The 27-year-old professional archer picked up his first compound bow at just 7 years old.

Some think this is too young for a child to carry a bow, but Ellison disagrees.

“It’s really the same thing as is it dangerous for kids to take training wheels off on a bike,” Ellison said.

Ellison eventually traded in his compound bow for a recurve. A move that made him one of the most successful recurve archers in the world.

Ellison recently met up with Paralympic athlete Matt Stutzman in Westwood, California. That’s where the two showed off their skills at the 2016 Team USA media summit at Drake Field.

Ellison won a silver medal at the 2012 Olympic games in London. He’s also reached the winner’s podium in five of the last six Archery World Cup finals.

When he was a child, Ellison suffered from a rare hip disorder called Perthes disease, and even put off surgery to compete eight years ago in Beijing.

“Really it hasn’t affected me in any way as I get older, especially after my surgery,” Ellison said.

Ellison said his team is more important than the individual.

“We stay focused on what we need to do to get there, not on the gold medal. What we as a team need to do to give ourselves the best chance,” Ellison said.

Ellison and Paralympic athlete Matt Stutzman have several things in common. Both won silver medals at the 2012 Olympic Games in London and overcame personal obstacles.
