White rallies to beat Blue in 2 OT’s in John Tyler spring football game

Daveon Cummings took a handoff from Isaiah Johnson saw some daylight around the left side and raced 15 yards into the end zone on the White team’s first play from scrimmage in double overtime John Tyler’s spring football game Wednesday.

The score gave the White a 29-22 victory over the Blue in CUJO’s annual intra-squad showdown.

Head coach Rickaln Holmes believes the Lions got better during the last four weeks of spring practice.  He feels despite losing a lot of great seniors to graduation from a state quarterfinalist team in 2018, he has a very talented, and capable squad heading into the fall.

He also enjoyed the competitive nature of the spring game.

Holmes announced that his John Tyler bunch will compete in a pair of national event this summer.  They will include The Opening at the Ford Center in Frisco from June 30 to July 3.  He told his team that is an 11-on-11 showcase, and that 30 of his players would make the trip including offensive and defensive linemen.

JT is also planning to compete in a national 7-on-7 tournament in North Carolina.

The Lions open the 2019 campaign on Aug. 30 at home against Mesquite Horn.
