ALTO, Texas (KETK) - Those wishing to help storm victims in Alto have a variety of ways and places to give.
Missionary Baptist Church at 107 East Elkhart in Alto is accepting donations of supplies.
Those wishing to help with cleanup efforts can bring chainsaws and tractors to the church and officials will disperse you from there.
The point of contact for all donations is Jaleea Dowling at 903-284-8083.
Commercial Bank of Texas in Palestine, 412 E. Lacy Street, is setting up a donation center that will open Wednesday. Donations are due by noon on Friday and will be delivered to the Alto community that afternoon.
Items most needed include:
- Diabetic testing strips
- Chips (individual bags)
- Sanitizer wipes
- Hand sanitizer
- Water, toilet paper & paper towels
- Storage totes
- Baby bottles
- Hair brushes
- Dish soap
- Work gloves
Also needed: Mops, brooms, trash bags, yard rakes, toiletries, washing detergent, canned goods with pop tops, non-perishable food, ziplock bags, peanut butter, bread, easy open things to eat, snack items.
The River Church at 595 S Marcus Street in Alto (Hwy 69 South) has been set up as Red Cross Assistance Center and is serving snacks and bottled water.
The River Church also is the donation point for prepared food. Please bring any hot meals there.
A relief fund has been established at Bancorp South, 134 N Marcus Street, Alto, TX 75925.
Rusk ISD is collecting gatorade and easy to grab snacks at the high school. You are welcome to send money as well and they will make a grocery run. Drop off at Rusk High School.
Whataburger in Jacksonville is pitching in to help those in Alto affected by Saturday's tornadoes with a "cruise-in" Thursday, starting at 5 p.m., at 627 S. Jackson Street.
Anyone who brings two medical items will be entered for a one-of-a-kind Whataburger basket. Items needed are:
- Ibrephfrphin (24 counts or more)
- Acetaminophen (24 counts or more)
- Children’s Tylenol
- Children’s Advil
- Blood glucose strips
Ahead of more storms expected to make its way through the area on Thursday, Palestine Police are also asking the public for more supplies including:
- Roofing Nails
- Plywood 1x4's
They're also asking if anyone can help cover roofs they're looking for volunteers to contact the River Church located at 595 Marcus St in Alto.
