‘Walk with a Doc’ offers free exercise and medical advice for East Texans

‘Walk with a Doc’ is a national event aimed at helping individuals take steps toward healthy lifestyles. 

The Tyler chapter of the movement starts tonight at 6 p.m. at Rose Rudman Trail, and runs through May. 

Every week, the group meets at the Copeland Trail marker and has a 15 minute discussion with a medical professional. 

The doctors speak on a topic that is close to their heart, and are able to give medical advice in a casual setting to members of the community. 

Then, the group goes on a walk to encourage active lifestyles. 

According to the Walk with a Doc organizers, every regular hour of exercise can help people gain two hours of life. 

They also say walking is a good exercise because it is low impact, easy on the joints, cost effective and easier for overweight individuals. 

Walk with a Doc also takes place in Longview the first Sunday of every month at 3:30 p.m. at the Paul G. Boorman Trail (Rice Park). 

In Henderson, the event happens on the second Sunday of the month at 3 o’clock at Fair Park.
