Upshur County Sheriff Larry Webb is pursuing a criminal assault complaint filed by a worker on the courthouse maintenance crew who says District Clerk Karen Bunn injured him as he performed his job.

According to our partners at the Longview News-Journal, an open records request by the News-Journal yielded a two-paragraph letter Webb wrote County Judge Dean Fowler and the Commissioners Court on Nov. 20 advising them of the investigation.

A copy of the complaint by maintenance employee Ricky Freeman was not immediately available from Webb’s office.

“There was an altercation that occurred, and we are investigating it,” the sheriff said, declining further comment.

Bunn was working a trial in the 115th District Court Friday morning and not available for comment.

Freeman is alleging assault on a public servant, a third-degree felony carrying two to 10 years and a maximum fine of $10,000 upon conviction.
