TxDOT wants public feedback on Old Jacksonville Highway expansion

Top Stories

TxDOT is holding a public forum tonight to get feedback on the expansion of FM 2493, or Old Jacksonville Highway.

The meeting will take place from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Harvey Hall Convention Center.

It’s the first community forum for this proposal, which covers a 14 mile stretch from Loblolly Lane in Tyler to FM 2813 in Flint.

The overall goal is to support traffic flow and safety in the area by widening the four-lane highway to six lanes.

TxDOT would also add more space for pedestrian and bike lanes and require new right of way for property owners along the road.

Kathi White, TxDOT public information officer, suggests homeowners and businesses along the highway attend the meeting to see all of the details of the plan and learn how construction may affect them personally.

Funding for the project isn’t expected to be complete until 2024, but tonight is the first major step in moving the project along.
