A police K-9 is dead and a 38-year-old man is in critical condition after a multi-county police pursuit in south central Texas.
It began with a routine traffic stop in Karnes County.
But the suspect had multiple outstanding warrants, and ended up leading authorities from several counties and the Texas Department of Public Safety on a police chase.
During the pursuit, the suspect fired several shots at officers. At one point, he fled on foot, firing wildly into the air, while a police helicopter pursued him.
He shot and killed the police dog sent in to subdue him, before being shot by officers himself. He received several gunshot wounds on his lower extremities and is now in a hospital in critical condition.
