Tatum hires Jason Holman as new A.D. and head football coach

The Eagles have found their new head football coach.

On Monday morning, Tatum ISD confirmed they have hired Jason Holman as their new athletic director, replacing Darren Hylander, who resigned back in March.

Holman has spent the last four seasons in Lufkin serving as the defensive coordinator for the Panthers.

He has a championshionship pedigree, Holman was on the Chapel Hill coaching staff which led the Bulldogs to a state title in 2011.

Last season, the Eagles went 5-1 in district play, but lost in the first round of the playoffs to Mount Vernon.

He is a 1990 graduate of Jacksonville HS, as well as a 1995 graduate and former football letterman, of Stephen F. Austin State University where he received a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management. He also earned a Master of Education from Stephen F. Austin in 2002.

Coach Holman has had coaching stops at Humble (Atascocita MS), Jersey Village High School (1998 Semi-Finalists), Chapel Hill High School (2010 State Finalists, 2011 State Champions), and most recently Lufkin High School (2017 Quarterfinalists).

Coach Holman has been married to his wife, JJ Holman, for 21 years. JJ is also an employee of Lufkin ISD and serves as an Assistant Principal at Trout Primary in Lufkin ISD. Jason and JJ have 2 children; 15-year-old Jordan-Taylor and 12-year-old Jared.

Coach Holman’s Overall Record as a Defensive Coordinator since 2010 is 86-38. His current district record at Lufkin is 22-4. He has coached in the playoffs 14 years (11 as a Defensive Coordinator) including winning a State Championship in 2011.
