SCSO: Flint man arrested after breaking into a home and kidnapping a young woman

On Tuesday morning, Smith County Sheriff’s Patrol Deputies were dispatched to the 1700 blk County Road 1182 in Flint, Texas involving a home burglary.

Police said the caller told 911 that Kody Rasmussen was attempting to break into her home and kidnap her daughter. While responding to the location, Deputies were told that Rasmussen had made his way into the house, assaulted the mother and forcibly removed the daughter. A car description was given as the suspect fled the area with the young girl.

A Trooper with the Texas Department of Public Safety was in the area monitoring the radio traffic and observed the suspect car. A short pursuit ensued before the suspect wrecked his car at the intersection of County Road 1170 and Lakeway Harbor Drive.

The suspect took off on foot but was quickly caught by the Trooper. The young girl was also recovered, unharmed, at this same location.

Kody Rasmussen – 19 of Flint, Texas was taken into custody at the scene. He was transported to the Smith County Jail where he was charged with Burglary, Kidnapping, Evading Arrest, No Driver’s License and No Insurance.

A motive is still being investigated. 

A judge set his bond at $120,561
