Monday, a US Navy reconnaissance aircraft was reportedly intercepted by a Russian fighter jet.
The American aircraft, the US EP-3, was flying in international airspace over the Black Sea when officials at the Department of Defense say the Russian fighter jet, SU-27, passed directly in front of the the Navy aircraft at a high speed.
The Russian jet then made a second pass and used its afterburner causing turbulence for the US crew.
The Department of Defense video shows fire from the jet’s afterburner as it is applied while passing the Navy’s aircraft.
The US Navy called the move “unsafe”, saying the Russians’ action put the American pilots and crew at risk.
