Police identify suspect arrested in Rose Rudman attack

Tyler police have arrested a suspect in the Thursday night attack on a woman at Rose Rudman Park.

The suspect is identified as James Earl Roberts Jr., 32, of Tyler.

Investigators in that attack say a man attempted to sexually assault a woman while she was running. He allegedly held a knife to the woman’s throat while he dragged her into the woods.

The woman fought him off and received minor scratches to her throat.

Crime scene investigators were able to locate a fingerprint on the victim’s phone, which was found in the park by police.

Investigators are processing other items of evidence related to the case.

Roberts is in the Smith County Jail on a bond of $350,000. He has been charged with aggravated kidnapping.

Tyler Police remind all runners to be cautious when running near dark hours and pair with another runner when possible for safety.
