MUST WATCH: Oklahoma City window washers survive wild ride

Top Stories

Two window washers in Oklahoma City had the ride of a lifetime Wednesday morning.

The two were cleaning windows on the Devon Building, Oklahoma City’s tallest building, when their lift came loose.

They were 50 floors – 50 floors! – off the ground.

Video captured by the Oklahoma City Fire Department shows their lift swinging around wildly, out of control.

It smashed into the building several times as rescuers tried to bring the basket under control, breaking glass.

Eventually crews were able to get ropes to the workers, and they managed to tie the basket off and lower it to the roof of the building.

Thankfully, neither man was seriously injured.

In fact, the two are being lauded for their clarity of mind while playing a part in their own rescue.

“What they did was absolutely amazing because they were on a ride that no one would want to experience to say the least,” said Benny Fulkerson, public information officer with the Oklahoma City Fire Department. “To be able to, in that situation, to have the composure to catch a rope back, to secure it while swinging 50 floors above the street level is amazing, and they are to be absolutely commended.”
