Marshall’s annual Wonderland lighted Christmas parade will now be held on Sunday due to inclement weather, city officials announced this morning.
The parade was initially changed from Saturday to Friday evening due to the Marshall Mavericks’ playoff game. In the event of rain, officials said it would be moved to Sunday. Now that the forecast of rain is confirmed, the parade will proceed for 6 p.m., Sunday, in downtown Marshall, according to our news partner Marshall News Messenger.
“Our city staff has just completed a conference call with the National Weather Service regarding today’s weather,” said Marshall Main Street Manager Rachel Skowronek. “While we feel like weather between the hours of 6 and 9 p.m. would not hinder the parade, we do feel like the forecast for early this afternoon would restrict some participants. Therefore, we have decided to postpone the parade until Sunday, December 2 at 6 p.m.”
City officials said parade entrants will be notified by the Marshall Main Street Office of the new parade date.
“According to the National Weather Service, the main threat from these storms will be damaging winds, and large hail; heavy rainfall and flash flooding are other possible threats with these storms, although the occurrence of either of these threats will remain more limited,” city officials noted in a press release.
“With these weather predictions, we felt it best to postpone the Lighted Christmas Parade not only for the safety of attendees and participants, but also to provide the best opportunity for the community and visitors to be able to enjoy it,” said Director of Community and Economic Development Wes Morrison. “I know everyone has put in a lot of time and effort on their entries and we don’t want to take a chance on their work being damaged by weather.”
Skowronek said the Wonderland of Lights Lighted Christmas Parade will feature an abundance of lighted floats and vehicles as well as several school bands, cheer and dance groups, and other local organizations. For more information, contact the Marshall Main Street Office at 903-702-7777.
