Surrounded by legitimate medical professionals, police say Kyle Grant Larsen posed as Dr. Kyle Ellis, owner of Medical Psychology of Wisconsin, LLC.
Lt. Dan Weiske, Appleton Police Department: “It appeared to be, from surface value, that it was a legitimate physician’s office, and that the care he was providing was something he was licensed to do.”
According to the Medical Psychology of Wisconsin website, the practice treated chronic pain conditions as well as mental health disorders.
The practice offered everything from laser treatments and electric muscle stimulation to lifestyle management and counseling.
The wide range of care provided by only Larsen, along with the fact the office didn’t accept health insurance and it was a cash only operation led one patient to become suspicious and reach out to police.
Lt. Dan Weiske: “We quickly determined, through checking with the state and things, that the individual was not a licensed, did not have the authority to complete medical procedures or issue any types of prescription medications.”
State records show Kyle Larsen is a licensed practicing nurse. His social media accounts say he worked in that capacity at an Appleton hospital before creating Medical Psychology of Wisconsin back in 2015.
Police believe Larsen was only operating his practice and seeing patients for the past few months. They say their investigation into the man posing as a doctor is only beginning.
Lt. Dan Weiske: “As we continue to look into things, we’re determining how those things came to be, how he acquired some of the information and ability to prescribe medications and to complete the care that he was doing.”
Appleton Police believe there are other victims and ask anyone who was a patient of Larsen’s to give them a call.
