Laredo parents face multiple charges in death of 3-year-old

Two Laredo parents are facing multiple charges after their 3-year-old daughter’s body was found in a bucket apparently containing acid.

Laredo police arrested37-year-old Monica Dominguez and 32-year-old Gerardo Zavala Loredo for allegedly covering up the death of their daughter, Rebecca Zavala.

Both are charged with abusing a human corpse and evidence tampering. Dominguez also is charged with two child endangerment counts. Zavala is in Webb County Jail under $125,000 in bonds while Dominguez is jailed under $175,000 in bonds.

The incident happened on Thursday afternoon at around 1:30 p.m.

According to authorities, Laredo police received an anonymous tip that something suspicious was going on in an apartment.

When police arrived on the scene, they secured the area and called for the Laredo Fire Department HazMat Unit.

A search of the couple’s apartment revealed a bucket with human remains hidden in a bedroom closet and reportedly filled with acid.

According to authorities, Dominguez said two of her children were bathing unsupervised in the apartment when Rebecca drwoned. Dominguez reportedly asked her husband to dispose of the child’s body.

The couple had a total of five children including the victim.

The other four children have been turned over to Child Protective Services.

The investigation is ongoing.
