GILMER, Texas (KETK) — The 2019 NFL Draft is in the books, and once again some of our East Texas athletes got the phone call they’ve been dreaming about, since they first put on pads.
In Gilmer, you could see that emotion on Kris Boyd’s face, after he found out he would be playing for the Minnesota Vikings.
The Vikings selected the former Texas Longhorn in the 7th round with the 217th overall pick.
On Saturday, he was surrounded by some of the people who care about him the most, as they celebrated this massive next step in his career.
Boyd was one of the most physical defensive backs in college football, and was often used to come off the edge and make plays in the backfield.
He understands, he doesn’t only represent Gilmer or the University of Texas now, but all the athletes who play under the lights, here in East Texas.
