CRASH REPORT: Truck driver, passenger not wearing seat belts in accident involving charter bus

On Wednesday the Tyler Police Department released a preliminary crash report from the fatal head-on crash involving a pickup truck and charter bus carrying a group of Brook Hill students. 

The crash happened Sunday morning around 4 a.m. on toll 49 near the highway 69 exit.

The report states that the bus was traveling westbound on Loop 49 with 32 occupants when a driver in a Chevy pickup truck traveling eastbound on Loop 49 crossed over and hit the bus head-on.  

According to police both the driver and the passenger of the pickup truck who has been identified as Jeffery Dalton Aynesworth, 22, of Rusk and Payton Joseph Raymond, 24, of Flint were not wearing seatbelts. Both men were killed at the scene, 

Five people on the bus, including the driver, Samuel Otung, 22, two adults, and two students, were taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.
