It’s not often you see “pig stipulations” on a council agenda, but item number two of new business is ‘continuing the saga of Strawberry the pig’.
The village of Elkhart Lake says the swine has to go.
Christi Sadiq rescued her pig Strawberry more than a year ago.
Sadiq applied for a permit to keep Strawberry as an alternative pet and gathered signatures from neighbors in support. The permit was denied.
Sadiq’s doctor got involved granting Strawberry emotional support animal status.
At tonight’s village meeting, the hammer came down hard. If Strawberry is seen again Sadiq faces fines of up to $100 a day.
Her attorneyJosh Levy responded, “Your ordinance is whether Strawberry is disorderly and there was no evidence at that hearing whatsoever about disorderly conduct.”
Sadiq’s not giving up without a fight. She said, “It’s becoming a very common domesticated animal. She doesn’t bark, you rarely ever see her, she caused no nuisance to the towns.”
