Caught on cam: Driver leads Longview police on dangerous high-speed chase

Longview Police have released dash cam footage of a high-speed chase where the suspect put numerous other drivers in danger. 

The pursuit reaches speeds up to 100 miles per hour. In the video, the driver weaves in and out of oncoming traffic, dodges barricades and finally collides with other vehicles..

According to Longview Police Department Public Information Officer, Sgt. Shane McCarter, the chase began the morning of Wednesday, April 12 on Highway 80 and ended when the driver police were chasing hit another vehicle at the intersection of East Hawkins Parkway and Airline Road, near the Longview ISD athletics department complex.

Police said the person they were pursuing was taken into custody and the driver of the vehicle they hit was taken to a local hospital.

During the chase, the suspect managed to avoid spikes put down by police several times.

The suspect was identified as Kenneth Leonard Mestas, 46, of Pueblo, Colorado.  He is charged with assault causing bodily injury, evading, manufacture delivery of a controlled substance and unlawful restraint.

Mestas is also a fugitive out of Pueblo County, Colorado. He is listed on the Sheriff’s Office Most Wanted list on two counts of assault.
