3 cadets injured in accidental shooting during police academy training

Several cadets were injured after an accidental shooting inside a classroom at a police academy training facility.

According to our NBC affiliate, officers said a cadet brought a loaded handgun in his backpack. Police said when the cadet reached in the backpack, the handgun discharged one round.

Two other cadets, a male, and a female were shot in their calves and the bullet grazed the third cadet.

Both cadets shot were taken to UTMB by Texas City EMS and did not have life-threatening injuries.

Police say the shooting happened Thursday night at the College of the Mainland Law Enforcement Training Academy in Texas City, about 40 miles southeast of Houston.
