2-year-old boy killed in accidental shooting

CHEROKEE COUNTY,Texas (KETK) - Cherokee County Sheriff's office is investigating the death of a 2-year-old boy who accidentally shot himself Thursday night. 

According to the sheriff's office a mother and her two children were visiting a home just outside of Alto on County Road 1209. 

Police said the two boys walked into a back room, moments later they heard a gunshot. When they walked in they said they found the two-year-old on the ground, with an apparent gunshot wound.

The family immediately headed to Rusk. By the time they reached paramedics the child was deceased. 

Judge Brenda Dominy pronounced the child dead at the scene. The little boy was later taken to Southeast Forensic in Tyler for an autopsy. 

The sheriff's office said they don't believe there was any foul play. No charges have been filed against the parents. 

The incident is still under investigation.
