Texas mom accused of leaving baby face down in field

A Texas mother is under arrest after a 9-month-old baby was found face-down near an Arlington creek. The 9-month-old boy has scratches and bug bites from hours spent alone in tall grass.
A relative is grateful he’s alive but shocked his mother left him. Another relative, Sarah, a cousin of the boy said she’s a great mom.
“Despite everything. She loves her children with her whole being,” the family member said.
Arlington Police said Amanda Smith startled a family Sunday evening, stumbling into their home intoxicated and carrying her other two-year-old son. Officer Nicole Newton said when she arrived, Smith tried to run.
“She’s holding the baby in her left arm. She’s grabbing ahold of the fence and putting her legs through the fence trying to climb the fence,” Officer Newton said.
The officer was able to pry the two year old away. Smith was then arrested and police called child protective services who reached out to family.
Police and firefighters searched the area and found the boy close to a creek swollen by rain.
Newton said locating the baby alive was a miracle.
