Teen falls to his death while hiking

News
Friends and family are mourning the loss of a Texas college student who fell to his death while hiking this Fourth of July in Austin.

Friends say there was always a smile on Thomas White’s face. They said he was a great friend to everybody, he was smart, so opinionated and say he will definitely be missed.

Those who knew Thomas said the outdoors is what he loved — nature and people.

Thomas was a student and soccer player at Southwestern University in Georgetown. He never made it home from the Barton Creek Greenbelt Monday night.

Police said Thomas was hiking on a nearby cliff with four of his friends when he lost his footing and fell about 50 feet.

Nelson Guda, a hiker who knows the area well said where Thomas was hiking is a place where you could fall off the edge, it’s a steep edge and it’s a long fall and there’s a lot of gravel.

Guda had some close calls himself. He said hikers have to watch every step.

A college student just beginning his life, only to have it end far too soon.
