Robber puts barrel of gun to driver’s head

Smith County investigators are looking into a robbery Tuesday morning where a victim had the barrel of a gun pointed to their head.

At around 6:40 a.m., the Smith County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a person who was held up at gunpoint after being stopped on a county road. 

Authorities stated the victim was driving north on County Road 289 when a black male stepped in front of the driver’s path and stopped the victim’s vehicle. The robber then walked to the driver’s side door and opened it, put a gun to the side of the victim’s head and demanded money.

The gunman was able to take an undisclosed amount of cash from the victim’s wallet. The thief then ran into nearby woods and disappeared.

The victim was able to travel to a nearby gas station off Highway 64 E and report the robbery. They were not injured druing the incident.
