Police ID child who died after rope accident

The Nacogdoches Police Department had identified the child who died following a Sunday rope accident.

NPD was notified by State Child Protective Services that the victim in the rope accident on Mitchell Street died Monday at around 1:35 p.m in Houston hospital. She has been identified as Addison Perez, 8, of Nacogdoches.

Dispatchers received a call for help at 2:06 p.m. Sunday afternoon. Officers arrived to find the child unconscious. Preliminary investigation revealed she had been playing with a rope on a stairwell and became entangled with the rope around her neck. She was taken to a local hospital and later moved to Houston.

So far, the investigation indicated the incident was an accident. The case is being investigated by NPD Detectives and State Child Protective Services workers.

The case remains under investigation.
