Officials ID Lake Tyler drowning victim

Authorities are responding to an apparent drowning at Lake Tyler Tuesday morning.

According to Smith County Sheriff’s Larry Smith, the victim is Tom Rudd, who is in his 80s. The man reportedly lives in the area of the 13600 block of Peninsula Road.

Deputies believe the man was on his motorized scooter and went down to the dock where he apparently fell in the water.

Smith stated a caregiver saw him last around 11 a.m. on Monday. The victim was preparing to go on a ride on his motorized scooter, which was found in the lake with his body. Deputies believe the man went down to the dock, where he apparently fell in the water. 

There was no forced entry into his residence.

The Smith County Sheriff’s Office and Game Warden’s Office is on the scene.
