New fatherhood classes to be offered at Buckner Children and Family Services in Longview

Longview, Texas (KETK)

The Longview Buckner Children and Family Services is looking to help improve the lives of several local fathers and their children.

Buckner has offered a program aimed at mentoring fathers in the area on how to be a better parent figure.

Statistics show a large fatherhood problem in the U.S. Numbers show one out of three children do not have a father figure that is actively engaged in their family. Gregg County is said to fall heavily into this category.

“We’re one of the leading counties in Texas with a child abuse problem.” Saying Sean Goram-welwh, an educator with Buckner.

They are hoping this new program will help give fathers the skills and tools to be an active part in their child’s life. The program will be made up of three classes. Those classes will consist of basic curriculum, getting the father and child together, and mentoring classes.

There are no age requirements for the program.
