Meals on Wheels suspending service for Wednesday

Meals on Wheels Ministry, serving clients in Henderson, Gregg, Smith, Van Zandt, Upshur and Wood Counties, announced this morning that it would suspend meal deliveries for Wednesday, March 9th, due to unsafe road conditions across its six county service area.
“Heavy rains which began yesterday and continued through the night have created dangerous driving conditions. In order to protect the safety of all our drivers including both paid and volunteer, we have decided to suspend deliveries for today,” announced Meals on Wheels President and CEO, Mike Powell. “So many of our deliveries take place in rural areas where roads are especially bad. We want to make sure our drivers are safe.”
In the early fall, all Meals on Wheels clients receive shelf stable meals consisting of non-perishable foods that can be consumed on bad weather days when hot meal delivery is deemed unsafe.

“We make sure that no matter what the weather does on a given day, our clients have the food they need,” said Mr. Powell.
