A Palm Bay, Florida mother and son were burned to death Thursday in what police call a deliberate act of violence.
Neighbor Jose Charriez saw their home engulfed in flames. What he saw next was horrific.
“I started running and as soon as I got closer I heard screaming, screaming, screaming,” he said.
He saw Daisy Tapia, 61, running outside.
“She was running and then she was on the floor rolling because she was on fire,” he said. “All her clothes were gone.”
Tapia and her son, Erik Montes, 32, were taken to the hospital, where they both later died.
Police said Tapia had broken up with her estranged husband, 64-year-old Edgard Fuentes, in October. He broke in around midnight, police said.
“The woman and her son woke up to her ex pouring gasoline on them,” said Palm Bay police Lt. Mike Bandish.
