Lufkin Police have released some new details about the credit card skimmers found inside gas pumps.
Officers say someone placed a small device, like a computer chip, inside two gas pumps at separate locations. One at the crown colony food mart on TX Highway 59 South and the other at “Kwick Korner shell” on South Timberland Drive.
The device allows thieves to steal credit card information. At this time, investigators don’t know how long the devices have been there but they have been removed.
Officers say they want people to keep their eyes open for anything suspicious.
“Anytime you use a credit card or debit card in a machine we advise you to pay attention to that particular machine and see if you see anything unusual about it,” said Chief Gerald Williamson, Lufkin Police. “If you see anything that looks like it’s attached to the port where the card goes in or anywhere there close to it don’t use the machine just find another machine.”
Chief Williamson added: if you think you might have used one of these pumps watch your bank account for any fraudulent charges.
