Longview residents lay flags in honor of fallen soldiers for Memorial Day

Residents and veterans from Longview’s Buckner Westminster Place gathered at Lakeview Memorial Gardens to lay flags on the graves of fallen soldiers.
Alonzo “H” Hodgson, a resident of Buckner Westminster Place and World War II veteran, recently moved to Longview and will participated to show his respect alongside other veterans.
“Well it just means that we’re trying to honor them for the service they gave to us,” Hodgson, said.
He enlisted in the Navy on July 9, 1943 at 17 years old . He served as a naval foot soldier in a Naval Beach Battalion Company until late March 1946. Job duties including moving troops and supplies across the ocean.
Buckner Westminster Place felt the event was meaningful for those who served and helps those deal with the grieving  process.
“It feels like a true team, it’s our country and despite what’s going on today in it, it’s still a great country but we’ve got to be careful,” Charles Andrews, a Korean War veteran, said.
