UPDATE: Victims, suspect in Frankston gas station shooting identified

FRANKSTON, Texas (KETK) - The victims and suspect of a gas station shooting in Frankston have been identified. 

According to the Frankston Police Department, Tammy Wynette Stevens, 51, died from a gunshot wound to the head. James Jones, 73, was also injured. 

The suspect, Grady Howell, 78, died from apparent suicide. 

At approximately 11:15 a.m. Friday, Frankston police was notified by the Anderson County Sheriffs Dispatch Center of a possible shooting at 308 E. Pine Street, at the Quik Stop convenience store. 

When officers got there, they found Stevens deceased at the scene. Jones was also injured by the same bullet. 

Officers were able to obtain video footage of the crime as it occurred. Footage showed a white man walking into the store where Stevens and Jones were seated playing video games. He walked up to Stevens, and shot her after exchanging words. 

Officers were able to identify the suspect from the video footage of the shooting. The Anderson County Sheriff's Office along with the Henderson County Sheriff's office and the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office assisted in the man hunt for the suspect.

The Henderson County Sheriff's office found the vehicle at a house in the county. Deputies trained in hostage negotiations made contact with the suspect by phone. 

Agencies surrounded the residence attempting to take custody of the suspect without violence. After looking into the house, they found he was deceased in the carport, from apparent suicide. 

Police say it is unknown what the relationship of the suspect and victims are at this time. 

The Texas Rangers will be assisting in the investigation.
