Senator Ted Cruz approves enforcement of U.S. sanctions on Iran

SAN ANTONIO, Texas (KETK) - U.S. Senator Ted Cruz issued a statement Monday following the Trump administrations enforcement of U.S. sanctions on Iran.

"I am pleased that today President Trump re-imposed the first wave of sanctions that were lifted by the Obama nuclear deal," Sen. Cruz said. "The deal was designed to allow the Ayatollahs to cheat while flooding them with billions to be used for terrorism and repression. I have long called for withdrawing from this dysfunctional deal and targeting the regime with the sanctions surrendered by the Obama administration. The protests intensifying across Iran right now show us yet again that the Iranian people yearn to throw off the yoke of an oppressive regime. America must do everything possible to support them, including fully enforcing all American sanctions, and I call upon our allies across the world to do the same."

In July, Senator Cruz led a letter signed by 10 senators to the ambassadors of the EU3 - Britain, France, and Germany - calling on their governments to deepen transatlantic cooperation against Iran and warning against efforts to evade U.S. sanctions.
