Reward offered to find Gladewater High School prankster

GLADEWATER, Texas (LNJ) - Gladewater ISD is offering a reward to high school students with information that will lead to the arrest of a possible fellow student who emailed safety threats to the principal this week.

According to our newspaper partners, the Longview News Journal, Superintendent Sedric Clark said the district believes a Gladewater High School student accessed the district’s network Tuesday to email vague threats to Principal Cathy Bedair.

Clark said he believes the student was “just someone who wanted to go home (early).”

“(There were) no threats of shooting or bombs, but things like ‘You need to release the students by 9 o’clock, by 10 o’clock.’ When we received the first one, we contacted the local chief of police, vetted (the messages) and determined ... through our technology department that it was done basically inside the school,” he said.

Bedair on Thursday called an assembly to tell the student body about the threats, Clark said.

“She believed that she could get from her kids exactly who it was ... so we can turn them in to police and let them know that this was not just something that was aggravating, but something that was criminal,” he said.

Clark confirmed that a reward was offered to the high school students for information but could not confirm the amount.
