Dashcam video of the traffic stop involving former Smith County Assistant Fire Marshal Oren Hale has been released. He was pulled over for suspicion of drinking and driving on Saturday, August 20.
In the video, deputies first spotted a Fire Marshal’s Office vehicle driving erratically near Loop 323 and North Broadway Avenue. Later in the video, deputies comment on something they see while behind Hale’s truck.
The Sheriff’s Office stated deputies saw inside what they described as pornography on the onboard computer monitor.
Also in the video, Hale admits two drinking two bourbon and cokes. During an interview with deputies, he calls the ordeal “embarrassing as hell.”
A trooper later arrives at the request of deputies to give Hale a field sobriety test, which he passes. After receiving a citation, the former county official is taken home by another vehicle. His truck was delivered to the Emergency Operations Center.
Hale was placed on administrative leave. He resigned on August 24.
