Protecting your garden tools during cold weather

Local News
As temperatures drop, it’s important to protect your gardening tools. During cold weather tools can rust excessively and become dull if not stored properly.

“Often we forget that a hand tool is an important part of what we do…” James Wilhite, Owner of Wilhite Landscaping-Lawn Care said “When indeed just a little bit of  maintenance goes a long way.”

He suggest coating tool handles with Linseed oil for a protective shield. Also, wiping access dirt and debris off can expand a tool’s lifespan.

“I like to look at a hand tool as something that will make my job easier, faster and more efficient and cared for properly, it’s an item  that will be around for a long time and give me a lot of good service.” Wilhite said.

Towels coated in motor oil can self combust, if piled in a corner according to Wilhite. Placing items in fire proof container or laying them out to dry can help prevent a fire.

“The last thing you want is to spend excess money on tools,”  Wilhite said.
