Officials identify East Texas woman, child killed in Hwy 64 crash

Two people, including a child, are dead and an infant was injured following a crash on Highway 64 E in Rusk County, near the Smith County line.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the wreck occurred on State Highway 64 at County Road 4117, southeast of Arp near Wright City.
At around 7:30 a.m., a Chevrolet truck was headed north when the driver came upon another pickup and attempted to pass on the right, but lost control and crossed into the southbound lane, according to a preliminary crash report. The Chevrolet overcorrected back to the right and was hit on the driver side by a Dodge pickup traveling south.
The driver, identified as Cassidy Massey, 21, of Henderson was pronounced dead at the scene by Judge Childress, as well as Ryder L. Frizzell, 5, of Henderson, who was riding in the back right seat.  Their bodies were taken to Crawford Crim Funeral Home in Henderson.
An infant in a rear-facing child safety seat was taken to LSU – Shreveport, and not a Dallas area hospital, as originally thought. His injuries are unknown as of this time.
The road remains closed.
The driver of the Dodge has been identified as Jermaine Gardner, 32, of Tyler. Gardner was taken to a Tyler hospital with unknown injuries.
