Officials identify 2 arrested in East Texas game room raid

SMITH COUNTY, Texas (KETK) - Smith County officials have identified two people arrested in a Thursday afternoon game room raid.

Judicial records identified Dilshad Ali and Salim Abdul Hussain, as the pair arrested in connection with a raid conducted by the Smith County Sheriff's Office.

The duo is charged with the following:

1) Keeping a gambling place

2) Possession of gambling device/equipment/paraphernalia

3) Gambling promotion

Deputies executed a search warrant at the Valero Express Beer and Wine in the 11000 block of State Highway 64 W, around 1:30 p.m., Thursday.

One of the store's owners arrived while the raid was in progress and was taken into custody. The second owner was later arrested.

Eight other people, including two employees, were issued citations. The employees were ticketed for promotion of gambling and the customers were cited with illegal gambling.

Eleven machines were seized from the business. 

Authorities also executed a warrant at a home in the 600 block of Heritage Drive in Tyler. Deputies sought financial records for evidence at the location.

The pair was booked into the Smith County Jail on $150,000 bond each.

They have both since been released.
