Officials have identified the Austin-area sheriff’s deputy who was shot and killed at his home early Monday morning after what law enforcement believes was an attempted burglary.

Around 1:20 a.m., Sgt. Craig Hutchinson of the Travis County Sheriff’s Office, was found lying in his backyard after he notified deputies of people lurking in around his Round Rock home. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Officials are currently searching for two suspects.

Neighbors were being told to stay inside their homes as officers from state and local law enforcement agencies search for the suspects.

Hutchinson was on the force for 32 years and was expected to retire in September, according to the Austin American-Statesman.
