No foul play suspected in death of ETX inmate

The state is investigating the death of an inmate who was found unconscious at the Bradshaw State Jail in Henderson.

According to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, Alfredo McCowan, 43, was found unresponsive during security checks at around 11:50 a.m. on Wednesday. Officials immediately started life saving measures until EMS arrived at the jail.

At 1:11 p.m., the justice of the peace pronounced McCowan dead. Authorities stated there are no signs of foul play.

The death will be investigated by the Office of Inspector General and an autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death, per standard procedures.
