Nacogdoches, Troup educators named 'Teachers of the Year' by Region 7 ESC

KILGORE, Texas (KETK) - Educators from Nacgodoches Independent School District and Troup Independent School District have been named "Teachers of the Year" by the Region 7 Education Service Center.

NISD's Kylie Altier took home the title of Elementary School Teacher of the Year, while TISD's Karyn Ard was named Secondary Teacher of the Year.

Altier was gifted a 2018 Honda Accord and Ard received a $5,000 check, both courtesy of Jack O' Diamonds Honda-Lincoln in Tyler, during a luncheon on Wednesday at the Region 7 ESC headquarters in Kilgore.

Region 7 ESC facilitates the selection of an Elementary and a Secondary Teacher of the Year to represent the region at the state level. The candidates are then submitted to Texas Association of School Administrators who facilitates the state selection. TASA then selects two state finalists to compete at the national level.

The Texas Teacher of the Year Program has been honoring excellence in classroom education whose efforts and example inspire students, colleagues and the community since 1969.
