Nacogdoches ISD announces new position

Nacogdoches, Texas (KETK) - Nacogdoches ISD has some news local parents may like.

They have created a new position, one aimed to make getting information from the district easier.

Parent's calls to their local school district can sometimes be frustrating.

What's the correct number?

Who is the right person to speak to and are they even available?

Nacogdoches ISD is working to eliminate these issues with a new parent/patron assistance center PPAC.

"When there's answers you can't find or there's people that you need I'll be able to connect them with the right person or the right resource," Erin Watson, NISD PPAC-PIE.

Watson worked as the parent-community liaison at Carpenter elementary.

There she had a similar job on a smaller scale to what she will be doing now for the district.

"She recruited many many volunteers and others to come in and help Emeline Carpenter with their tutoring and other service projects so we thought she would be perfect for this position," said Michael Martin, NISD Assistant Superintendent of Operations.

Some parents say they still have a bad taste in their mouth from the last superintendent.

Accusations included being a poor leader, disorganized and non-transparent and it ultimately led to a petition for her removal.

This new position is already bridging that gap.

"She's awesome, she's really involved in the community," said Elizabeth Saavedra, local parent. "I know people right now have trust issues so hopefully we get a little bit of parent involvement and we have more trust in NISD."

"We are just in the process of just rebuilding the friendships, rebuilding the relationships that we have," said Watson.

Because when you put students above all else everything is worth it and anything is possible.
