Man pinned to tree by vehicle, killed in family fight

One person is dead following a domestic violence incident in Deep East Texas. Police say the victim was pinned against a tree by a vehicle.

According to the Carthage Police Department, detectives are investigating the death of Robert Lee Barkins, 44, who was allegedly killed by 66-year-old Robert Lee Barkins, Sr.

Police said they were called to the 400 block of Cook Street on reports of an accident, where a man was trapped under a car. When officers arrived on scene, they discovered an assault had taken place. One person was found dead, pinned to a tree by a vehicle.

Investigators determined there was allegedly a fight between a father and son earlier in the day, which escalated to one man pulling a pistol and the other using the vehicle as a weapon.

The younger Robert Barkins was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was sent for autopsy.

The came remains under investigation and will be forwarded to the district attorney when complete.
